Abstract:
The aim of this project was to conclude and critically discuss ten years of sociological research in the field of sustainable technology. In the introductory text of this collection three main aspects of my work are discussed: 1) The concept of sustainability is introduced as both a normative orientation and a new way to frame and organise research. 2) Own research in the field of Science and Technology Studies is discussed in respect of its contribution to our understanding of user innovation, social learning in technological development, and innovation networks in the field of sustainable technology. 3) In the third part the introductory text reports on experiences with several technology assessment activities. In this combination the presented work can be seen as an attempt to contribute to what Sismondo (2008) has called ‘engaged programme’ of Science and Technology Studies.
