Abstract: Cloud computing is one of the hottest technological trends in education. According to MICROSOFT (2012), “With Cloud computing in education, you get powerful software and massive computing resources where and when you need them. […] Cloud services can be used to combine on-demand computing and storage, familiar experience with on-demand scalability and online services for anywhere, anytime access to powerful web-based tools.” This paper discusses the potentials that the cloud delivers for education, and introduces the “School on the Cloud” project. The Journal for Geographic Information Science issue 1-2015 presents peer-reviewed papers
presented at the Geoinformatics
Forum (www.gi-forum.org), held in Salzburg from July 7-10,
2015. The annual GI_Forum symposium provides a platform for dialogue among geospatial minds
in an ongoing effort to support the creation of an informed GISociety.
